KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The recent release of the Malaysian Automotive Association's (MAA) statistics for sales in 2005 sees the
Mercedes-Benz marque maintaining its number one position in the country's automotive industry for another year.
DaimlerChrysler Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the distributor of the
Mercedes-Benz marque in Malaysia, announced that 3,311
Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were sold in 2005, giving the marque clear leadership position in the segment.
On a group basis, the
Mercedes-Benz Car Group (MCG) comprising
Mercedes-Benz and smart passenger cars also performed strongly, opening up the lead on its nearest competitors with 3,653 units sold in 2005.
The
Mercedes-Benz E-Class also remained as the best-selling
model in the luxury executive segment with 1,644 units sold last year, giving it a market share of 51 percent, within the segment.
Of this, 1,093 units were the E200 Kompressor, its most popular
model.
"With strong
model line up in the
Mercedes-Benz E-Class in 2006 and the recently launched and highly successful
Mercedes CLS-Class, which received the overall 'Car of the Year 2005' award, we are confident that
Mercedes-Benz will continue to hold onto its leadership position in this luxury segment for this year," president and chief executive officer of DaimlerChrysler Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Datuk Frank Steinleitner said at a media briefing here Thursday.
He also said that the
Mercedes-Benz S-Class increased its grip in the premium luxury segment, selling 305 units last year.
"This tremendous performance place DaimlerChrysler Malaysia in a strong position for 2006 and the launched of the new
Mercedes S-Class is expected to take
Mercedes-Benz to new heights in this segment," he said.
In the premium MPV segment, the recently launched
Mercedes-Benz Vito range has already given DaimlerChrysler Malaysia a strong presence in its comeback into the category.
With the addition of the new
Mercedes-Benz R-Class into the multi purpose vehicle (MPV) line-up later this year, Steinleitner said that
Mercedes-Benz is expected to provide a premium product range to its customers who may be looking for superior alternatives to the currently offered models available in the Malaysian market.
He said that 2006 would also see
Mercedes-Benz increasing the pressure on its competitors with ample focus on customer service.
He said that the emergence of the benchmark
Mercedes-Benz Autohaus network gives DaimlerChrysler Malaysia and its authorised
Mercedes Benz dealers the perfect platfor to sell the new products to its ever growing customer base.
"With our very successful 2005 wrapped up, we look forward to another successful year in 2006.
"Our stunning range of new models and the impressive existing
model line-up will help us consolidate our heritage position and increase our market share as the all-time leading brand in the premium luxury car market in Malaysia," he added.
