GM India launches Chevrolet Aveo

[02/11/2006] General Motors today launched its new car Chevrolet Aveo. Addressing a press conference here, General Motors India President and Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said that the Aveo was the first three new Chevrolet products proposed to be introduced during the calendar year 2006.

"On the pipeline are 'U-VA' and Optra SRV to be released this calendar year, will be as part of the largest expansion GM proposes in India", he added.

He said that the Chevrolet Aveo is a global product that incorporates the latest technology and meets the highest standards of quality. It has been re-engineered based on extensive testing across the country to meet the specific needs of customers as well as local driving conditions and regulations.



Mr Chaba, however, declined to reveal the price of the newly launched Aveo, saying that "the price will be decided after Union Budget 2006-07 was announced." Stating that the 'Aveo', launched for India today was being rolled out in more than 140 countries around the world, including some European markets and the United States, GM Vice President (Global Engineering) Jim Queen said that " the Aveo is a key driver of the global expansion of Chevrolet." "We look forward to continue building on the brand's success nationwide through exciting new products like the Aveo.", he added.

GM India, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, has registered a 18 per cent growth last year by selling 30,837 vehicles.

GM India Vice President (Sales) Akash Arora said that the sale of newly launched Avero was expected at 14,000 this year.

Mr Chabba said that the dealership network will be expanded this year and it will be increased to 110 from the present 77. Besides, two new parts distribution centre will be set up in Maharashtra and Delhi to supplement the two existing centres in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
