The new car will likely have a more sporty profile with styling largely influenced by the Sports 4 concept shown at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.
When it arrives, it will probably feature a revised version of the 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with i-VTEC technology and a significant boost in power.
Accords will come with either five-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearboxes.
The hotter Type S will likely feature a turbocharged motor and come equipped with a six-speed DSG transmission and Honda's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system.
Production of the eighth generation Accord is scheduled to start towards the end of 2008.
