Milan - Fiat's new version of its tiny Cinquecento car has reportedly been named Car of the Year by European motoring journalists.
The new Fiat 500 has beaten the Mazda2 and the
Ford Mondeo into second and third place of the European Car of the Year competition.
Last year, the title went to the
Ford S-MAX.
The title is awarded by a panel of journalists from across Europe who vote for the most outstanding new car to go on sale in the last 12 months.
The 500 came out with much fanfare in Italy in July.
