Mechanic Transforms Old Citroen Into Legendary Mercedes Silver Arrow

[12/19/2007] For many, the dream of owning one of the handful of Mercedes Silver Arrows still in existence is one hindered only by a relatively gargantuan budget deficiency, a sad yet unavoidable reality. Such was the case for Max Hyde, a 26 year old mechanic and Citroen 2CV owner who'd dreamt of owning one of the vintage race cars. Rather than feeling despondent, however, letting his wants get the better of him, Max instead decided to do what any true visionary would: he put his mechanic skills and £70 Citroen to good use.
For many, the dream of owning one of the handful of Mercedes Silver Arrows still in existence is one hindered only by a relatively gargantuan budget deficiency, a sad yet unavoidable reality.

Two years, countless trips to the garden shed and £10,000 later, Max transformed his dream into a reality, debuting to the world his Silver Arrow replica, dubbed the "Max Hyde Motors Mark II." Features include his former Citroen 2CV's engine, wheels, suspension, gear box and headlights, while the rest of the 12 ft. vehicle was fabricated out of steel tubes and aluminum. According to Max: "The car is fantastic and fun to drive. It looks like a Silver Arrow but drives and handles like a 2CV."

As for whether or not Max intends to capitalize on his hard work: "I wouldn't sell it because it has been built just for me and I am the only person who can fit in it," Max states. Of course, toss him an old Citroen plus £200,000 and I have no doubt Max will be more than happy to build you the world's second Max Hyde Motors Mark II.
