Renault RS fans have a diminutive pocket rocket to look forward to in 2008. A new Twingo RS has been snapped undergoing high-speed tests in southern Italy.

The second generation of Renault's massively popular city car was launched during 2007. The RS version, although sporting obligatory test mule disguise panel trim, should have a different bumper with larger air-intakes and revised fog lights, wider wheel arches to cope with the large diameter mags and tyres and a new rear skirt section.

Power is expected to be in the region of 108kW and probable candidates to generate this output are either a radically modified version of the standard Twingo GT's 1.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, or indeed a trick, 1.6-litre, naturally aspirated engine.

How the power comes about is of little consequence though, as 108kW in a city car weighting a breath less than one ton should guarantee some resolute verve in terms of performance.

Twingo RS will complete a powerful trio of hot hatches for the French car giant, which already has the redoubtable Clio RS and venerable Megane R26 in its hot hatch portfolio.
