The W204 Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been awarded the maximum rating in Euro NCAP testing.

The sedan was awarded a five-star rating after fulfilling several of the bench-marking European New Car Assessment Programme's requirements.

Mercedes attributes the high rating to the car's safety concept.

The body structure has been designed to ensure that impact forces resulting from a collision are distributed over a wider area to ensure the passenger cell remains largely intact. Around 70% of all the bodywork panels are made from state-of-the-art, high-strength steel alloys.

Seven airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, belt force limiters and crash-responsive head restraints are listed as standard equipment.

According to the manufacturer, C-Class is also the only car in its segment to come equipped with the anticipatory Pre-Safe occupant protection system.

Available as an optional extra, this Mercedes-Benz innovation uses the time between detection of a potential accident situation and a possible collision to initiate preventive protective measures, thus reducing the loads exerted on the occupants in the event of an accident by up to 40%.
