BMW and Fiat have been announced the winners in an online poll for the best new car designs to have debuted in 2007.
Car Design News, the leading automotive design media, in its third online poll voted BMW's Concept CS as the best concept design, while the Fiat 500 walked off with the best production design honours.
The
Mazda Taiki and Citroen C-Cactus were adjudged second and third best concept designs.
For production cars, the Maserati Gran Turismo was voted the second best, while the Audi A5 rounded out the top three.
In its third year, the online polll received more than one thousand responses. Awards were presented to the winning design teams at the recent Geneva Motor Show.
In collecting the award for BMW, design director Adrian van Hooydonk said, "This award means a lot to us and the team. There was a lot of sweat that went into this design so we were pleased with the very positive reaction to the car, especially that from Car Design News".
Head of Fiat Design Roberto Giolito and design director of Fiat Group Automobiles Lorenzo Ramaciotti accepted the award on behalf of the Fiat Group.
"We are really pleased to receive this award," said Ramaciotti. "It's the second year in a row that Fiat Group has won - last year with the Alfa 8C - and now the Fiat 500 at the lower end of our range and the Maserati in second place this year".
