The sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September, with local sales probably kicking off early in 2009.
According to the latest information about VW's most important
model range, the new VW Golf VI is set to get a new entry level engine below the current 110kW 1.4-liter TSI (not on sale here).
In an interview with Automobilwoche, Wolfgang Steiger , VW's manager for powertrain research, said the next Golf will offer either a 1.0-liter or 1.2-liter engine developing about 55kW.
When the new Golf goes on sale in South Africa it will be the first time that it will be sold as an imported
model. VW announced last year that production of the Golf will seize at its Uitenhage production facility in the Eastern Cape.
