[06/17/2008] The first of Honda's hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles, the FCX Clarity, has come off the line at Japan's first dedicated fuel cell vehicle manufacturing plant.

The first of Honda's hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles, the FCX Clarity, has come off the line at Japan's first dedicated fuel cell vehicle manufacturing plant.
After spending 19 years in development, the FCX Clarity, which emits only water from its exhaust pipe, was presented at a line-off ceremony at Honda's New Model Centre in Japan where the dedicated fuel cell vehicle assembly line has been established.
The assembly line includes processes unique to a fuel cell vehicle including the installation of a fuel cell stack and hydrogen tank.
The FCX Clarity was designed from scratch as a dedicated fuel cell vehicle. It is powered by the compact Honda V Flow fuel cell stack, which is also produced in-house.
Boasting a low-slung and dynamic appearance made possible by the layout of the fuel cell power plant, FCX Clarity claims superior driving performance coupled with environmental responsibility.
Lease sales are scheduled to begin in July in the US, followed by Japan where combined sales of about 200 units are expected within three years.
FCX Clarity will also be showcased at the upcoming G8 summit as one of a group of advanced environmental technologies.
