Toyota originally planned to produce a large SUV at its new manufacturing facility in Mississippi, but will instead build the Prius hybrid electric there from 2010.

The change in plans was driven by fluctuations in market demand in the US, a market where the strong demand for hybrid vehicles is expected to continue, the manufacturer said.

It will be the second hybrid vehicle built in the US; Toyota already builds the Camry Hybrid in Kentucky.

Furthermore,in response to a rapid fluctuation in demand for its trucks,Toyota will halt production ofits Tundra and Sequoia for three months.

The body and engine production lines at three facilities will be affected from August through November. During this time, employees will be assigned to participate in "continuous improvement" activities and training.
