Alfa Romeo wins award, goes after BMW

alfa romeo
[11/16/2005] Autocar Magazine has granted Alfa Romeo the design award for their new Brera. Alfa, in turn, say they plan to go after BMW and Mercedes for quality and customer service.
The UK magazine UK's annual awards offer a series of prestiguous prizes, and to everybody's surprise, the Brera drives home with the award for best design in the boot. Commenting on its choice, Autocar describes the new Brera as "an imposing coupe with rare grace. It creates impact through the quality of its lines and proportions rather than visual gimmicks.".
Going after the Germans

Floating on the accolade, Alfa Romeo are now promising to beat the BMWs, Mercedeses and Audis of the world, and will do so on the basis of customer service and quality. We can't quite make out if this is a joke: Alfa is known for a lot of things, but quality and customer service aren't the first things that spring to mind for the Italian automaker.

Nevertheless, with Alfa turning up the heat, the luxury car market is set for some interesting price- and quality battles over the next few years, something that can only be of benefit to the customers.
