FIAT: GHIGO, LOCAL GOVT SHOULD CLARIFY ACCORDS WITH FIAT

(AGI) - Turin, Dec. 27 - "For the Grande Punto line at Mirafiori, Piedmont regional council should clarify what exactly are the undertakings made by Fiat, and respect them." Thus requested regional Forza Italia chief, Enzo Ghigo, referring to comments by company M.D. Sergio Marchionne, on the signing of the handover to local authorities of a part of Mirafiori, during which he reported that the new car will be built in Turin only from next September. Ghigo, recalling that originally production was supposed to start in April, wanted clarification as to what 'Torino Nuova Economia', (the name given to the companies taking over a part of Mirafiori, ed.), intend to do in the run-up to the opening. He wanted to know exactly what agreements Fiat had with local authorities to know whether the postponement is a violation and he wanted to know what the real prospects for employment were at the plant.
