More than ever active in the four wheel drive universe, this year will see Nissan France launch a sports programme based around the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies, aiming to claim the Production category title once more, with the Nissan Pathfinder. Like last year, the driver will be Benoît Rousselot, but this season he will run under the colours of Nissan Aventure. The first event on the programme will be the Dakar, which will see Benoît take to the trails of Africa.
Nissan Aventure was born in 1994, with the aim of allowing all Nissan four-wheel drive owners to get full enjoyment from their vehicles, and to allow them to satisfy their wish to get away from it all, in all safety.
No matter their approach to cross-country driving, Nissan Aventure gives its clients a way to join the big four-wheel drive family. Any purchase of a new Nissan 4x4 from a French dealer includes a systematic and free three-year membership. Combining conviviality and practical four-wheel driving skills, the key words are watching, discovering, learning, respecting and having fun, Nissan Aventure is the natural extension of the wish of the Nissan 4 by 4 to open up to the world. A concept which makes the four-wheel drive vehicle the best excuse to discover a region, to go for a trip in the high mountains, to try out a new sport … between friends or with family.
It was with this in mind that Nissan Aventure chose the World Cup for Cross Country Rallies to give added value to its image. Rally-raid competition is the ultimate expression of the Nissan Aventure philosophy.
Benoît Rousselot joined the Nissan family last year, which was meant to be a learning year for him. A year to learn, and a year to win was the principle, which could have paid off on the first season, as Benoît finished in second place of the World Cup, despite a serious accident in Egypt. The 2002 French Rally Champion is facing the 2006 season more motivated than ever. The Challenge was very clear : victory. And to start with, the aim will be the T2 victory in the Dakar. Although this event is not part of the World Cup, the prestige of the event in undeniable, and the young driver from Nancy would love to add it to his career record.
For this first race, Benoît's navigator will be Sylvain Poncet, as Fabian Lurquin, his usual co-driver, will be rejoining the Chinese driver Xu Lang with a Nissan Paladin entered by Team Zhengzhou. Rousselot and Poncet's Nissan Pathfinder will be prepared by the experienced team Nissan Dessoude, used to victory and a partner of Nissan France for decades. Under the leadership of André Dessoude, the Pathfinder T2 team will have to fight hard to reach their objective, as competition in the category will be fierce.
One thing is certain, Rousselot and Poncet will be extremely motivated and full of confidence when the line up on the starting ramp on Saturday December 31st, ready to pick up the challenge of this great adventure.
